Countless books have been written about the benefits of meditation.

Just like our bodies, our minds need rest from thinking. However we have been conditioned to think constantly, and without rest, our mind stops functioning properly just like our brain.
Meditation is a different kind of rest than sleeping, where your mind is actually quite active in the dream state.
Meditation actually allows your brain to slow down and recuperate from the over-drive that so many of us keep it in.
It just makes sense. If you don't rest your mind, it will break down and not work as efficiently as it could. In attempts to “work hard” and just “keep pushing” to be more productive, we actually do ourselves a huge disservice because we begin to work less and less efficiently as we exhaust our mind.
